Inspired by trace, memory, and childhood experience my creative practice employs hand stitching, eco dyeing, reclaimed and found materials to create tangible, often quiet textile forms as metaphors. It is the intention of these pieces to communicate stories, not only of the previous life of the materials in hand, but of everyday memories that are so intrinsic to life.
My recent Masters work focused on communicating themes of absence and loss by exploring childhood experience. The process of making allowed me to work through a very personal brief and make peace with the often-complex emotions associated with memories. The repetitive, hand stitching acted as a form of meditative repair which allowed me to reflect on and let go of the past.
